Partha Bhattacharjee

(1958 – 2025)

Partha Bhattacharjee was an Indian contemporary fine artist primarily concerned with reality and illusion of human life. Partha is best known for his use of Trompe-l’œil in the Devi Series. He was awarded the President of India’s silver plaque for the best work for the year 2000-2001 by AIFAC.

Artist's Work

Partha’s career was a journey across the Indian fine art landscape, experimenting with styles and mastering mediums. During the second half of the decade, Partha trained himself in different types of Indian folk art. Travel to heritage destinations such as Raghurajpur in Orissa, the Sundarbans in Bengal, and Ajanta in Maharashtra has led him to develop a contemporary style that draws on India’s rural art traditions.

Even when a cerebral attack in 2017 limited his vision, his creative spirit remained unbroken. After that, Partha entered his most honest chapter, his portfolio reflects a mastery of Madhubani/Mithila painting, Warli art, Gond art, and Patachitra art paintings, blending these techniques into a unique collection of Indian contemporary artwork forms that captures the essence of rural India.
